1 min read
What do you do? I represent children in custody, complete casework, attend conferences, do policy-making and public speaking; I was recently asked on to the Today programme on Radio 4.

What are the hardest aspects of the job? Facing the inertia of localauthorities to do their job, either through lack of resources orprejudice against offending children.

What was the highlight of the past week? The publication of our report,Chaos, Abuse, Neglect, covering local authorities' duties to children incustody. It highlighted 100 cases using judicial review to obtainsupport and accommodation for under-18s leaving custody.

What advice would you give to others wanting this type of work? Beprepared to be thick-skinned and unpopular, and don't cultivate anexpensive lifestyle.

What is the most rewarding aspect of the job? Hearing a happy child saythank you - which happens fairly often I'm glad to say, as we are fairlysuccessful.
