1 min read
What exactly do you do? I am the project co-ordinator for Jiwsi - a community-based sex and relationships education project run by fpa for vulnerable young people in north Wales. Jiwsi targets young people who otherwise wouldn't have sex and relationships education, including youngsters with learning or physical disabilities, the homeless, and pupils excluded from school.

My role is split between delivering courses and being the main contactand co-ordinator.

Describe a typical day. Jiwsi is available in six counties in NorthWales, and we work in coastal urban areas with similar problems to innercities, to small villages in mountainous areas with limited health andtransport services.

Although these groups appear different, their needs are the same.Neither has been given the opportunity to discuss sexual health beforeand have limited information. We don't make assumptions about people'sknowledge but explore practical and attitudinal barriers to good sexualhealth.

I also plan courses and meet with health and social services staff.

What other agencies and who else within your organisation do you workwith? NSPCC, NCH and other voluntary organisations working with youngpeople. Jiwsi is jointly funded by the health boards in north Wales sowe also work with statutory services. I'm also supported by the trainingand project department at fpa.
