1 min read
What exactly do you do? Concurrent planning is a new approach tocare planning for looked-after children. We recruit and prepareconcurrent carers who foster the children and are willing and able toadopt them if it is required later on. The aim is to ensure children donot move unnecessarily and that final decisions regarding permanence arereached within the child's timescale.

Describe a typical day. Concurrent planning is a stressful process bothfor parents and carers and much of my time is spent supervising andconsulting with staff to ensure that parents and carers arewell-supported throughout.

What other agencies and who else within your organisation do you workwith? We work closely with local authorities, the courts, members of thelegal profession, and paediatricians. Within Coram Family, we havestrong working links with the adoption team, contact centre, andparents' centre.

How did you end up in the job?

I worked for a number of years in children and families social work fora local authority. I saw this as an opportunity to make adifference.
