Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Delphine Garr, workforcedevelopment manager, London Borough of Barnet

1 min read
What exactly do you do? My current focus is developing and implementing Barnet's children's workforce strategy. This strategy aims to improve outcomes through joint working with our partners in the independent sector and ensuring that the workforce is highly skilled, motivated and committed.

Describe a typical day? It's rewarding working with people dedicated totackling workforce challenges, but some days I'm rushed off my feetbetween meetings, conferences and workshops.

What other agencies, and who else within your own organisation do youhave to work with? The children's workforce spans health, social careand education, including early years, across the statutory andindependent sectors. So, we've set up a multi-agency children'sworkforce strategy group to help finalise and implement our localstrategy.

How did you end up in the job? I've had very fulfilling jobs elsewherebut I've always been interested in workforce development and enjoyimplementing change, so here I am.

What qualifications do you need? This job gives me an opportunity to usemy experience and background education in teaching, management andcommunication studies. I also find being qualified as a Prince 2practitioner very useful.
