Workplace: Who's in your meetings?

1 min read
PC Karen Martin, Safer Schools officer for St Columba's School, Bexleyheath.

What exactly do you do? I am a Safer Schools beat officer. The main aims of the Safer Schools Partnership are to reduce crime and victimisation among young people, to provide a safe and secure school community, to ensure that young people remain in education, and to engage young people in the community.

Describe a typical day. It starts at 8am when I patrol the route to school.

At around 9.15am I arrive at school and spend the day in school dealing with any matters that may arise. I patrol the corridors at break times and often have lunch with the students. I attend meetings with teachers and parents and I'm considered a member of school staff. I also give talks in personal, social and health education lessons and citizenship days.
