Following a staff-side vote, CYWU general secretary Doug Nicholls has taken over as staff-side secretary from Andrew Morris. The new secretary will lead negotiations and liaise with the JNC employers' organisation.
He also notes staff-side views and looks at developing and investigating new policy.
The CYWU already chairs the JNC staff side with public services union Unison, the National Union of Teachers, and the university and college lecturers' union, NATFHE. The CYWU currently holds eight out of the committee's 16 seats.
The CYWU has sought the backing of the Trades Union Congress for a series of demands to government. It is calling for improvements in statutory provision for the youth service; a labour market plan to recruit 4,000 more youth workers; and a new regulation, licensing and professional development system for all young workers.
