There has been huge interest in the graduate-level early yearsprofessional status, a lynchpin in plans for workforce reform (ChildrenNow, 14-20 June). The Children's Workforce Development Council, whichcreated the role, revealed it had been inundated. "We have 100 placesand received more than 400 expressions of interest," said a councilspokeswoman.
Candidates will be interviewed in coming weeks to see who will start thefirst phase of the programme in September. Last week the councilpublished results of a consultation with parents and children on whatearly years professionals should be like.
The survey of 45 three- to 11-year-olds and 29 parents and carersrevealed good communication skills were very important. Children saidthey liked staff who listened and talked to them.
