Workforce: Universities enter early years arena

Thirty universities across England will offer professionals the chance to train as a new breed of early years leaders.

The Children's Workforce Development Council last week revealed theorganisations that will be delivering training and assessment for EarlyYears Professional Status during the second phase from January 2007 toMarch 2008.

The National Day Nurseries Association, together with the OpenUniversity, will remain a national provider, alongside others includingconsultancy firm Tribal Group.

The new role is a lynchpin in the plans for reform of the children'sworkforce. The Government aims to have a graduate-level leader withEarly Years Professional Status in every children's centre with earlyyears provision by 2010, and in every full daycare setting by 2015.
