Councils need to do more to assess the impact of the 14-19 curriculum on school transport.

A Department for Children, Schools and Families report says the new curriculum is likely to lead to more student travel between schools and colleges, which current provision will not be able to cope with in the long term.

Connexions Direct is failing to appeal to teenage boys, according to a survey of 13- to 19-year-olds on the advice service. The survey found that around three-quarters of its users were female. It also found that 13- to 15-year olds prefer email and online contact rather than using the telephone.

The majority of secondary school head teachers in England believe that special educational needs allowances, awarded to teachers with SEN pupils in their class, are not necessary. A survey found that 54 per cent believed they were unnecessary because of other allowances and payments.
