Scottish secondary schools are not doing enough to promote healthy eating. An evaluation of the Scottish Government's healthy eating drive in schools, Hungry for Success, found less than half of secondary schools actively encourage children to eat fruit and vegetables, while many schools sell sweets and cakes before the start of the day.
Schools and sixth-form colleges need to do more to encourage pupils to take science at A- and AS- level, according to an Ofsted survey of post-16 science education. Inspectors found progression routes from GCSE to AS- and A-level were not clear compared with non-science courses.
