Warning over volunteer action plan's lack of financial backing

1 min read Careers Youth Work
An action plan to attract more volunteers into youth work has been unveiled by the Scottish Government - but no new money has been allocated to it.

The head of the leading youth agency in Scotland has warned proper funding and publicity is essential for the plan to work.

Adam Ingram, minister for children and young people, launched the Volunteering Action Plan this week.

It will be delivered by youth club network Youth Scotland. The project aims to boost support given to those volunteering in the youth sector and to improve the recruitment, training and development of people giving up their time to work with young people.

Ingram said young people need guidance, encouragement and attention to help them develop the confidence and self-esteem to fulfil their potential. "That's why volunteers are so important," he said. "This action plan will help energise volunteers and encourage more people to take on the rewarding challenge of enhancing young people's lives."
