Analysis: Policy - Youth Strategy - Scotland sets out youth workplans

A ripple of pleasant surprise spread across Scottish youth clubs last week as ministers got their long-awaited youth work strategy out, by the skin of their teeth, weeks before the national elections (YPN, 14-20 March, p3).

But many in the sector are withholding much of their excitement until September, when a new government will decide on longer-term spending.

Peter Crory, national general secretary of YMCA Scotland, says: "We've ended up, after a huge consultation, with the bulk of the strategy being wrapped around a year of one-off action. The 8m being offered is not a lot of money and it's not going to transform the sector."
