Wales: YMCA plans to set up outdoor centre

1 min read

The centre will perform a similar role to YMCA England's Lakeside National Outdoor Centre. It will be part of YMCA Wales, rather than running as a separate charity as local YMCAs normally do.

Matt Healey, the centre manager, said that the development is running alongside plans to adapt YMCA Wales to fit in with the changing nature of youth work in the principality. He hopes that the centre will act as a "catalyst" for change within the organisation.

The centre is based at Penycwm youth hostel, which the YMCA bought from the Youth Hostels Association in January. Healey was recruited from Outward Bound Options, and started work last month.
