Wales: Foundation Phase worker hired

The National Day Nurseries Association Cymru has appointed an early years development officer to help early years services in Wales implement a curriculum for three- to seven-year-olds.

Kevin Williams' post is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and willhelp organisations adopt the Foundation Phase, which must be in place inall Welsh settings by the end of 2008.

Williams will be charged with monitoring joint working between earlyyears organisations and will oversee a review of training needs.

He said that when compared to the state sector many private andvoluntary services provide a superior level of care, but a lower levelof education. He added that private and voluntary services are oftenoverlooked. "I will be working to draw the non-maintained sector fullyin," he said.
