The bill, which is due to be debated at its final stage in the House of Commons on 11 January, will reduce the minimum age for MPs and councillors from 21 to 18. A recent amendment to the bill to give young people voting rights at 16 was tabled by Hull North MP Diana Johnson, but it was withdrawn to give the Government time for further consideration.
"This is a really good opportunity to introduce new legislation," Johnson told YPN. "It might be five or six years before we get another one and more young people could lose out."
