The Votes at 16 Coalition, which consists of organisations in favour of lowering the voting age, was due to hold an event in Parliament yesterday to give young people the chance to persuade their local MPs to back the amendment. The bill is in its final stages, so if a majority of MPs back the change it would stand a good chance of becoming law.
Alex Foulkes, Votes at 16 campaign manager at the Electoral Reform Society, said: "This is one of the big chances for the campaign. This is a bill which we believe is amendable. Those don't come along very often."
