Volunteering: Redundancies at CSV as Barclays funding ends

1 min read

The five people who run Community Service Volunteers' (CSV) Make a Difference Day campaign, which last year motivated 33,000 young people to volunteer, left their jobs last week after seven-year funding from Barclays Community Investment Programme ended. Make a Difference Day aims to provide one-off opportunities that may encourage people to volunteer further.

A CSV spokesman said the annual action day, which has been running for 11 years, would still take place this year, on 27 October, but would be in a smaller form if new funding could not be found. He said a campaign manager for the initiative would stay on at the organisation. Sue Farrington, CSV's director of corporate affairs, said: "We are looking for a mix of sponsorship and in-kind to support Make a Difference Day. It is our experience that companies are under pressure to provide sponsorship for major events such as the Olympics. "
