"If you get them young, they're likely to continue," says volunteering organisation CSV's youth marketing officer, Aesha Zafar. "And if you can engage one person from a group with volunteering, they're more likely to go out and let others know."
Over the past two weeks, thousands of young people across the UK have been rolling up their sleeves and knuckling down to activities such as gardening, DIY and helping the homeless.
The benefits of CSV's tenth annual Make a Difference Day are intended to stretch beyond last Saturday (29 October), or the two weeks on either side of this date which it spans.
