Opinion: Vox Pop - Is youth volunteering cash making a difference?

1 min read
A survey by research company nfpSynergy has found youth volunteering levels among 11- to 25-year-olds have remained unchanged in the past 18 months, despite government efforts to get more young people volunteering.

YES: Helen Clare, 23, Agents4Change volunteer, CSV

Money certainly does make a difference. The support I get from Tesco and v pays for printing leaflets, making posters and attracting other young people to volunteer.

So far, I've been able to enlist 450 other young people on to projects for sexual health campaigns and to improve the local environment. In my experience, cash spent on helping young people to recruit their peers is a really successful way to attract the next generation of volunteers.

YES: Ella Nwaokolo, youth project manager, TimeBank UK

TimeBank's work with young people has shown that young people are more determined than ever to give their time in their communities. The important issue is ensuring the right kinds of opportunities are available. We've found that investment in innovative projects that empower young people to volunteer on their terms motivates them to develop an ongoing commitment to volunteering and make a significant positive difference in their communities.
