New volunteering campaign for young people

1 min read
A new volunteering campaign called Favours has been launched by the youth volunteering organisation, V. The campaign aims to transform young people's perceptions of volunteering.

V has found that 66% of 16-25s in England think the term volunteering is "off-putting". However, when asked if they had ever done a favour for a person outside of their family and friends, 80% said they had.

V hopes to inspire more young people to take up voluntary work by rebranding it as doing favours for others. The volunteer projects on offer through V address issues that resonate with the individual interests of young people, such as music, design, art, sport and fashion.

One such project is the Fashion Favours initiative where volunteers from across the country work together to create a fashion range from recycled and customised clothing.

Terry Ryall, chief executive of vinspired.com, said: "We want to show young people that volunteering is as simple as doing someone a favour. We all do it - we just don't recognise it.

"We know we have a receptive audience - more 16-25s volunteer than any other age group. We want everyone to volunteer, we want to make it easy and we want to make it a natural lifestyle choice."
