The Engage, Volunteer, Achieve project will launch on 5 September and aims to work with 60 young people over two years. Groups of 16- to 25-year-olds from Tower Hamlets, London, who are not in education, training or employment, will work with the project for 13 weeks.
The volunteers will study for certificates in health and safety, child protection and first aid and will volunteer at local churches, mosques and charity shops. They will also be offered work experience-style placements.
Selina Rahman, project co-ordinator, said Tower Hamlets was ideal for finding placements. "We have Canary Wharf nearby and it opens up opportunities," she said.
