Tesco last week announced it was the latest company to ally itself with youth volunteering charity v in getting more young people involved in their communities (YPN, 28 March-3 April, p2).
About 150 organisations have successfully tapped into the charity's funding and less than a year after its launch, the plans are starting to turn into reality.
The 1m government match-funded Tesco Young Volunteers project will be managed by Community Service Volunteers (CSV), which will get it off the ground in the next few weeks with the recruitment of young people as community 'catalysts'.
The volunteers, of whom there will be 20 over each of the next two years, will be tasked with enabling 300 young people each year to help their communities.
