In October 2005, 24-year-old Andrew Cumming found himself in a 500-a-month one-bed flat in Bayswater at the start of a year-long directors' training course at the National Film and Television School in London.
Andrew was lucky enough to get a scholarship to cover the course's tuition fees, following six months of film-making experience that he notched up in a volunteering placement at Levenmouth YMCA. The cost of living in the capital after his life in a small Fife town caused Andrew some panic.
But thanks to a 1,500 personal development fund grant from ProjectScotland, the youth volunteering organisation that arranged his placement, he was able to cover his first three months' rent and throw himself into his course.
