Volunteering: Charity v opens online gateway

The web site, vinspired.com, combines a revamped national volunteering database with advice and social networking features such as blogs, webchat and photo sharing.

The portal was one of the recommendations of the Russell Commission. More than 2,000 young people were encouraged to register with the site during its test phase from December.

Online youth charity YouthNet, which owns and manages the national volunteering database, developed the site with v.

Sarah Ford, a member of v's youth advisory board v20, said: "It's a great place to find out about volunteering."
