Volunteering

If I were in charge of volunteering, I would get more young people involved in a variety of projects, especially in hospitals.

A lot of young people aren't aware of where they can volunteer and there aren't enough projects. Some schools have introduced compulsory volunteering but I think this should be extended nationally, with a range of schemes to suit all pupils.

Volunteering gives young people a purpose, especially if they feel lost. It gives you new skills, more life experience and the ability to communicate with others. It can also give you ideas about careers and it makes people realise that the negative stereotype of young people often isn't accurate.

I've been volunteering at the Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup since November and I was recently a team leader for a week as part of a youth volunteering programme at the hospital. We helped brighten up the outdoor spaces and assisted at meal times.
