Hackney Council

If I were in charge of Hackney Council, I'd get more young people involved in recycling. There's not enough recycling in Hackney. It's just not taken seriously enough.

People need motivation to recycle, particularly young people. The council tries to get us to recycle - it puts posters up and stuffs leaflets through our doors but who reads them? The council needs to make recycling fun and entertaining to get young people involved.

I'd put on a recycling festival for Hackney residents - in fact me and my Envision team mates are planning one already. We'll be having a recycled fashion show, compost bins and, of course, food and music. To bring about environmental sustainability we need social sustainability. We need people in the community to feel connected and motivated to make their surroundings better. Having a festival to promote recycling aims to work towards this kind of sustainability.
