Voluntary Sector: London Youth chief quits after 10 years

The federation, which provides support and training for more than 500 clubs and 80,000 young people in the capital, has appointed an acting chief executive, Joan Howard, an experienced volunteer youth worker who joined London Youth's board of trustees last year.

Richard Sermon, chairman of the organisation, said: "Noel has effectively doubled the size of London Youth, which was a major strategic contribution. He has often expressed interest in doing something of his own before he retires, so this was a planned departure."

Sermon said the federation is keen to recruit a chief executive who will provide leadership and motivation for London's youth sector.
