Voluntary sector: Handouts to attract clubs to quality mark scheme

A year-long pilot, due to start in April, will initially involve 30 affiliated youth clubs and offer three levels of achievement: bronze, silver and gold. The Jack Petchey Foundation and The Mercers' Company will give cash rewards to clubs as they reach each level, with the amount yet to be decided. The funding could be put towards training, equipment or activities.

Nick Wilkie, chief executive of London Youth, said: "We are developing a quality mark as a way of providing clubs with more structured and long-term support from us. It's important for clubs to become accredited in order to be taken more seriously by funders."
