Voluntary Sector: Closed charity set to pass its work on

The Family Services Unit is expected to transfer all its services in England to the Family Welfare Association (FWA) after entering administration last week.

The charity was forced into administration after being unable to meet apension deficit understood to be about 5m, though chief executivePhilippa Gitlin said the amount had not been "crystallised".

The unit provided support services to 30,000 children in England andScotland.

The English services are likely to be taken over by the FWA while theservices in Scotland, which cater for 3,000 children, are to betransferred to a new charity being set up by the Family Services Unit.Both transfers are to be finalised at the end of April.

Helen Dent, FWA chief executive, said: "We feel the services should bekept going."
