Training: Tory group slams Learning and Skills Council

1 min read

A report from the Vocational Skills Working Group says a "radical overhaul of state funding for skills training" is needed to help the 1.25m 16- to 24-year-olds it says are not in education, employment or training.

The group, which forms part of the Economic Competitiveness Policy Group, is independent of the Conservative Party, but its findings could be used to shape party policy. It argues that a new demand-led system should be used to allow young people to follow a career of their choice.

It also recommends Apprenticeships led by employers over those provided by colleagues, criticising the current system where it says that only 20 per cent of Apprenticeships are employer-led.
