Social justice: Tory leader slams justice system

Speaking in response to the Conservative Party's Social Justice Policy Group report (YPN, 11-17 July, p2), Cameron said: "We have a complete crisis and failure in youth justice.

"Look at young offender institutions; reoffending rates at some of them are 80 per cent. If there was any other organisation that was this failure-led we would be tearing it up and starting again."

Cameron said the root of the problem came from the breakdown of society and the lack of role models in young people's lives: "We feel there are too many people in this country who don't have a loving home or the support of family and friends, and positive role models."
