General Election 2024: Key manifesto pledges for youth justice

The opening of the UK’s first secure school at the end of the most recent government’s term marks a significant shift in the youth justice landscape.

However, most recent statistics from the Ministry of Justice finds that the number of young people entering the youth custody estate increased for the first time in 2022/23.

General justice pledges include:

Funding every police force to roll out Hotspot Policing and giving every neighbourhood an additional police officer.

Introduce a redress scheme for the victims of child sexual abuse in institutional settings that reflects their needs with leaders of grooming gangs required to make a national apology to victims.
