General Election 2024: Key manifesto pledges for education

Teacher recruitment and support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are among key issues the sector is calling for the next government to address.

All three main parties – The Conservatives, Labour Party and Liberal Democrats – have made pledges in a bid to tackle the teacher recruitment and retention crisis while the Tories have promised to increase access to apprenticeships for young people.

CYP Now examines key manifesto pledges linked to education and what these could mean for the sector.

Conservative Party

Ban the use of mobile phones during the school day and "ensure parents can see what their children are being taught".

From this September, new teachers in priority areas and key STEM and technical subjects will receive bonuses of up to £30,000 tax-free over five years.
