Shireen Ritchie, chair of the Local Government Association's children and young people's board
While David Cameron has an official youth policy adviser, he doesn't have an equivalent for children's services. The reason: the party has Shireen Ritchie.
The Kensington and Chelsea councillor has been the borough's lead member for children's services for six years and is chair of the Local Government Association's children and young people's board. She also holds the influential post of chair of the Conservatives' committee of candidates, which selects the party's prospective MPs.
Ritchie is the party's most respected voice on children's services and meets regularly with shadow children's secretary Michael Gove and shadow children's minister Tim Loughton to advise them about policy.
