Jeff Brown has been appointed as youth services manager for Somerset County Council. He was previously area youth co-ordinator for Taunton Deane/West Somerset and has more than 10 years' experience in youth and community work.

Bron Sanders has been recruited as independent chair of the East Riding Safeguarding Children Board. Sanders has a social work background and has worked in children's social care services in Doncaster, Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield and London. She also set up and chaired Doncaster's Safeguarding Children Board.

Swindon Borough Council has announced that John Gilbert will take up the post of group director of children's services in April. Gilbert is currently head of school and community services at Telford and Wrekin Council and was previously assistant director of development for leisure and cultural services at Stafford Borough Council.

 

 

The British Edutrust Foundation has selected Glynis Jones as principal designate for the proposed Heartlands Academy in Birmingham. She is currently head teacher at Heartlands High school and her new role will be effective from July. Jones was seconded to the school, which was subject to special measures at the time, in May 2003.
