The National Youth Agency: YPDP celebrates first birthday at theHouses of Parliament

1 min read

A three-year initiative funded by the Department of Health in partnership with the DfES, YPDP consists of 27 pilot projects now supporting around 700 young people to address risk-taking behaviour. A particular aim is to address issues surrounding teenage pregnancy, substance misuse and educational attainment among young people aged 13 to 15. Wylie said: "Young people's lives do not always follow a smooth path. All young people need someone to speak to on their own terms, in particular those who may be experiencing difficulties and uncertainties. In taking time to stop and listen to young people, we are better placed to support them as they develop their own solutions to their real-life problems. Great progress is being made by YPDP. By improving self-esteem, increasing aspiration and developing concrete skills, young people can make a real difference in their own lives, including improvements in mental health, a reduction in unplanned pregnancies, alcohol and substance misuse."
