The National Youth Agency: Youth workers and the global society

Young people's lives are becoming increasingly globalised. Fashion, fast food and film all have global dimensions, as do the issues that concern young people such as health, poverty, the environment and crime, all highlighted in On The Right Track, a recent piece of peer education research carried out by young people and published by Save the Children.

They aren't the only people thinking about the world. Last month, the then Education Secretary Charles Clarke launched an International Education Strategy consultation and, increasingly, youth work course curricula are expected to include global content. Furthermore, 2005 marks a unique opportunity for the UK to help change the course of global history. This year we will have presidency of both the G8 Summit and the European Union.
