Young people have been, and continue to be, instrumental in the removal of global boundaries. Never has the world been so connected. International communications are almost instantaneous and unrestrained by time or location.
This places a considerable pressure on young people. They have the potential to experience more than ever before through a variety of different media and outputs.
But by experiencing more, they also have the potential to assume responsibility for issues that they might not have been aware of before, such as climate change and the welfare of people in other countries.
Creating global awareness among young people helps them to develop interpersonal skills, such as humility. The positives of globalisation are counterbalanced by challenges and as a result we need to ensure that we fully equip our young people to be able to identify the opportunities and negotiate the risks effectively.
