Issue: Lack of things for young people to do
The situation: Young people felt that they did not have enough to do. Two were elected to the Isle of Wight Youth Council on a manifesto of developing things for young people to do. After persuading local county and parish councillors of the need for youth provision, the young people worked with councillors, surveyors and builders on a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).
What children and young people said: "It gives me something to do, like play football - it's better than hanging around on the streets being bored. Lots of people use it and it prevents them from getting bored and getting into trouble." "Up to 50 people can be down here at once - we play games of 15 to 20 a side sometimes." "Everyone socialises more since it's been built - you know your mates are going to be down here."
