The event is aimed at a broad range of delegates and covers community engagement, antisocial behaviour and community policing. The NYA has developed a mini-conference with the Local Government Association and Nacro for the middle day of the event that will look at why the steep increase in the number of young people sentenced to custody is bad news, both for those sentenced and in terms of reducing crime, and what can be done to change this. It will also explore how more holistic strategies are usually more effective than ASBOs in dealing with antisocial behaviour and how punitive responses can be balanced with preventive educational and infrastructural strategies to have a long-lasting impact.
