THE NATIONAL YOUTH AGENCY: Seminar considers youth work approachesto gang culture

1 min read

Chair of The NYA, The Right Reverend Bishop Roger Sainsbury, who also chaired the seminar, cited effective partnerships as crucial to any successful work of this type. He also urged the Government to unite behind youth work as a tool for conflict resolution. "Many young people say they have been drawn into gangs because mainstream education has failed them. The Government needs to connect more effectively with what young people are saying."

The leaflet considers the key problems related to gangs and makes a number of findings and recommendations based on the work carried out by Action Research Consultants in 2003. It looks at case studies in Camden, Manchester and the Leap Gangs and Territorialism Project before providing a series of action points on the key principles and methodologies for youth workers, involving young people in solutions, messages for local and national government and how to build and sustain successful partnership working.
