A Journey of Discovery: Spirituality and Spiritual Development in Youth Work, which aims to inform professional reflection, policy and practice, follows on from a consultation exercise last year.
It has been written by consultant Maxine Green for The NYA and was originally commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills.
Writing in a foreword, Bishop Roger Sainsbury, chair of The NYA, says: "Recent events have shown how important a right understanding of spirituality is, both globally and nationally, particularly for young people."
Raising key issues rather than finding definitive answers was the main aim of the report. In her conclusion, Maxine Green reflects: "This is only a beginning and I hope that it will be a useful tool to continue a debate, which needs to be mindful of others' interests and faith/ belief positions, but also needs to be undertaken in a spirit of rigour and vigour."
