The National Youth Agency: Positive about the street conference

1 min read
The forthcoming conference from the Federation for Detached Youth Work, which takes place in Wigan 13-15 November, takes as its title Positive About the Street.

The event aims to explore the street, and people's behaviour within it. This has always been the subject of controversy, publicity for the event claims, but never more so than now.

For some the street is a place of antisocial behaviour and crime, a place to be feared. For others it's a playground, a place of freedom, creativity, culture and commerce, even a home.

Yet others use it as a meeting space, a site for discussion and protest.

The conference will debate how these activities should be valued.

Speakers at the event include Tony Jeffs, editorial group member of Youth & Policy and university lecturer, and Tom Wylie, former chief executive of the National Youth Agency. Vanessa Rogers, the nationally acclaimed author and youth work consultant, who has published many resources with the National Youth Agency, will also be running a session focusing on positive activities, team games and group work ideas to use on the streets.
