Is detached work the last remaining medium for authentic democratic citizenship education - or has it been co-opted by policy makers as a foil for a more insidious form of citizenship "education" - one that has more to do with social control than democracy?
Other debates and training opportunities during the event will take issues such as participation, values, dilemmas, diversity, "Britishness", social inclusion, community cohesion, patriotism, identity and multiculturalism.
The conference, along with the Federation's AGM, will take place at the Britannia Hotel in Wiganfrom 8 to 10 November. For booking details contact Acomo Olule, administration and finance officer, on 0116 242 7490, email fdyw@nya.org.uk, or visit www.detached youthwork.info
