The NYA invited expressions of interest from organisations in the youth sector wanting to develop work last year. Programme leader Merlynne Francique said: "There were specific reasons for wanting to focus attention on this area of work. A mapping exercise of the sector revealed that there was little intergenerational work undertaken within the youth work orbit. Moreover, there was a lack of understanding of what intergenerational work entails and how to initiate this work with young people. Preparing a thematic set of case studies on intergenerational relations confirmed the widespread confusion among practitioners in relation to the nature of intergenerational work."
