Mirza, 27, works full time as a writer, actor and stand-up comedienne, having originally trained and worked as a teacher. She is a regular performer on stage and screen in the UK and Europe, and last year wrote and presented 10 Things You Always Wanted To Know About Islam (But Were Afraid To Ask) on BBC1. She recently won the award of Young Achiever of the Year at the Leadership and Diversity Awards.
"I am honoured and delighted to become patron of such a worthwhile cause that I know will help many young people," said Mirza. "I feel there is a lack of role models in our society, as there was when I was growing up, and I know this affects young people's motivation and ambitions in life. I used to be a teacher before I became a comedian, so I know about a few struggles."
