The National Youth Agency: Justice, Equality, Our World

1 min read
The National Youth Agency is hosting a free event at Newham Town Hall in London on Wednesday 5 May to launch a new publication entitled Justice, Equality, Our World. The keynote speaker will be Shazia Mirza, the stand-up comedian and a patron of The NYA.

Justice, Equality, Our World brings together the lessons learned from an NYA project on supporting young people's active involvement in strengthening communities.

Monica Hingorani, development officer at The NYA and author of the pack, said: "In strong communities young people are at the centre of decision-making on issues affecting their lives. A thriving voluntary and community sector has a key role to play in ensuring that young people's voices are heard, and that local services respond to their needs."

She added: "These sentiments are at the heart of the Transforming Youth Work agenda and in initiatives to strengthen community cohesion. There is evidence from around the country that young people's active involvement in strengthening communities is being supported - but it is by no means a universal picture.

"This event will be an opportunity to bring to life the key messages from the publication to inform policy and practice. There will also be performances by young people to provide inspiration and we hope the whole event will encourage the development of creative and innovative approaches."

Places are limited and bookings will be taken in date order. The NYA is grateful to the Department for Education and Skills for its support with this event.
