The National Youth Agency: Make health services even more welcoming

1 min read
The National Youth Agency has welcomed the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) call for more targeted provision for teenagers, but would also like to see greater use made of new approaches that can enable mainstream health provision to offer a better service to young people.

The NYA's chief executive Fiona Blacke commented: "There have been some excellent initiatives developed by the Department of Health and others to help address the issues identified by RCGP, including the national scheme to make health services young people friendly, called You're Welcome. We would like to see all GPs and Hospital Trusts sign up to this scheme, which empowers young people to influence and improve the services they receive.

"Also, the imminent Royal College of Paediatrics e-learning training package - which includes learning materials for community based staff - will help to ensure a greater joining up of services around young people. More resources and priority - yes. But also recognition and consistent use of what is already out there would be a great help to young people."
