The five projects are Catch22 Youth Volunteering Service, the Quakers' Junior Yearly Meeting, Harlow Youth Cafe Project, the Bournemouth-based Young Citizens and Bradford Young Grantgivers.
The overriding message that emerges from youth-led volunteering is the opportunity it presents for maximising the benefits to the individual.
Youth Action and Engagement editor Kerry Harrison, said: "The sense of empowerment that comes from identifying issues of concern and planning, organising and carrying out projects to address them can be immensely rewarding to the young people involved."
"Add to this the development of a range of new leadership skills that stem from the challenges young people set themselves and the experience is often instrumental in generating confidence and interest for progression onto further volunteering opportunities."
