Jon Boagey, The NYA's director of communications, attended the launch at 10 Downing Street to usher in the year-long celebration of reading in all its forms.
Campaigns and activities throughout the year will, it is hoped, inspire everyone to read more, with a focus on reluctant readers, those with low confidence, and boys and dads.
Local authority co-ordinators across England will work with local education, community, library and leisure services, businesses and the media to deliver activity in their local communities. The NYA will explore ways of involving youth work and youth workers in this.
A major thrust of the campaign aimed at teenagers is Read Up, Fed Up. This aims to start a national conversation among teenagers about what they love to read or hate to read.
